A POEM BY GER WHITE

The Giant

Published in Spillwords

Ballybunion beach and coastline
It was just a hill field to the neighbours
But we knew it as the Bed of the Giant
And when he was heavily breathing
His breath shaped a fog oe’r the land

It was rare that anyone saw him!
Sleep was what he did best
It seems he was old and a tired Giant
So we should keep very quiet, let him rest!

Most folk saw a green hill-field
We saw Giant’s Head and Feet
And ogled at that large heaving belly
And wondered when and how we would meet!

So we tiptoed past his bed in the morning
And ran past it scared late at night
We watched every move, every heaving
That Giant’s bed filled us with fright.

I then moved away from that hillside
Returning years later to visit some kin
Out of curiosity I checked on the “Giant”
Saw nothing but a hill-field of green.

My daughter was with me however.
I felt nothing. But as we were leaving
She pulled on my arm in excitement
“Mom-wait, I can hear the giant breathing”

A POEM BY GER WHITE

Crying Inside Out

A single tear
Tears flow, water drips
Inside lips
Flows down throat
Hits a dull note
Moisture gurgles
Over hurdles
Down past heart
Washes that part
Flows down inside
Gathers to full tidal
Wave, flushes the gut.
Salt water
Pushes down
Past groin
Bathes liver and loins
In salty residues
Rests near toes
Cannot get out
Surges back up
Making one hiccup.
Flows up to the head
Fills one with dread
I feel we need puncturing
Or maybe just nurturing
Filled with sad tears
Which nothing can ease.

A POEM BY GER WHITE

Art & Spirituality

Art and spirituality abstract
Art creates the future for thee and me
Spirituality, the tool which sets us free

From trauma and loss, from cares and woes
From hurting others with mistaken moves

When spirit is free as she once was
She is wholesome, beautiful and total cause

Lies and fake facts hold us back
Spirituality helps to free up that track

We make up for wrongs done, we get a clean slate
To re-create our own selves, create, create, create

With this pair of twins,
We can only ever win

Spirituality and Art,
Cannot live apart

They help us build futures
Of love, joy and heart.
